Welcome

Hey — I'm Alp. Based in Seattle, working at Amazon as a software engineer in the Finance Automation org — using AI to automate areas inside Amazon's finance division. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in EECS, and before Amazon I spent time at Nokia Bell Labs and a few startups.

What this site is

It's mostly a place to put side projects and write about things I've been building. The posts here are a mix of ML experiments, web projects, and occasional writeups about the more interesting problems I've run into.

Background

I've been building things on the side since undergrad — usually stuff where I wanted to understand how something worked by building it myself. Autograd from scratch, a BPE tokenizer, a matchmaking algorithm for a ride-sharing startup. Not always practical, but always clarifying.

The /work tab has the more serious stuff: research from national labs, startup work, that kind of thing.
